Meet Liz.......and Luna
I was out walking on a beautiful autumn morning and bumped into Liz and her gorgeous new puppy, 18 week old Luna. I have been toying with the idea of getting a puppy.....not quite so sure now!
“It’s been an enormous shock having a puppy again. I’d totally forgotten how calm and serene an old dog is. Getting a puppy, any puppy, is hard because they have an enormous amount of energy. But getting this puppy, a Labrador from a working line who likes to be busy and challenged and at work, is particularly hard, especially when you don’t have anyone else at home and you’re working.
That made me realise she's a part of my life now
Within about a week of getting her, my husband got a job which means he leaves the house at 7am and gets back at 9pm. I actually had a long hard think about whether I regret getting her when a trainer I saw realised I was struggling a bit and said to me “how would you feel about sending her back to the breeder?” That made me realise I just couldn’t, she’s a part of my life now. And she will calm down….eventually!
I do love it that every morning, whatever I’m doing, I do have to be up and outside, taking her for a walk. And then there’s the fact that my (three) boys come home to see her, so I actually get to see them more often!”
So that’s a working labrador crossed off my list of potential dogs then! Any advice on the whole should-I-shouldn’t-I-get-a-puppy dilemma would be much appreciated!
