Boom Radio - a new radio station specially for us
Do you consider your music taste to be eclectic? Do you still love the songs of the 60s and 70s, but also enjoy listening to tracks from more recent eras and are happy to discover new releases and artists? Do the broadcasting names Nicky Horne, Graham Dene, ‘Diddy’ David Hamilton and Kid Jensen mean anything to you?
If your answer to all of the above is a resounding ‘yes!’, then there’s a new digital radio station launching on Feb 14th that I feel pretty confident will be right up your listening street.
Boom Radio
It’s called Boom Radio, and, big surprise, it’s predominantly aimed at us baby boomers (though you’ll definitely be more than welcome if you don’t happen to fall into that demographic).
At its musical heart, Boom Radio is all about the songs we listened to and loved in our youth. And I’m not just talking about the narrow-focus, pop hit, wedding anthems that tend to be served up on other stations. There’s something on the musical menu for everyones tastes, with a satisfying helping of tracks you’d forgotten but remember you love when you hear them again. Plus a generous handful of more current hits and performers.
Recognise the presenters?
Then there’s the line-up of presenters. Well, talk about blasts from the past.
I defy you not to be instantly transported back to the days of Capital Radio when you hear Graham Dene’s familiar tones on the Boom weekday morning breakfast show. Or Nicky Horne’s unchanged voice guiding us through drivetime from 4pm.
As for David Hamilton, who pops up over lunchtime each weekday, the fact that he’s a frankly unbelievable 82 doesn’t seem to affect either his vocal cords or his typically bouncy broadcasting style.
Music and talk
Mixed in with the music there are some more talk-based shows, including a twice weekly (Thursdays and Sundays at 2130) dip into life, love and everything inbetween with legendary agony aunt (a title she says she hates for a job she loves) Anna Raeburn.
And….er, me!
There is one other content element I’d like to draw your attention to. Each Tuesday at around about 1130, morning show host, David Lloyd, will be joined by none other than…..me!
I’m not sure if I ever told you that I used to present a daily radio programme on a station called Spectrum, back in the day. So it’s a huge treat to revisit those broadcasting roots. Although as you’ll see below, it turns out broadcasting from home is a little more….er, cobbled together than being in a studio!
David and I will be chatting about whatever living well idea or inspiration has caught my attention that week and I’d really love it if you joined us. If you have any suggestions about, or requests for, things you’d like me to talk about, do let me know.
Find out where to listen to Boom and all the information about their programme schedule on their website. I look forward to singing along with you and to having a chat across the airways every Tuesday at 1130.
